Thursday morning and Friday afternoon, we got stopped by the police. Our front license plate was missing. We had noticed it sometime last week, but had forgotten about it. (How often do you think about your front license plate?)
Well, the first guy was very nice and even spoke english. He explained that we needed to file a report with the police if we think it was stolen, so that we'd have a piece of paper to show any police if we got stopped. No ticket!
Yesterday, as we were driving to our school to get help with this (there is a person who helps us with things like this), we got stopped. There were two policemen and they didn't speak much english. After 25 minutes of our broken Hungarian and a bit of charades, they understood what happened and still gave us a ticket. It's going to cost us 20.000 forint, which is about $125. By the time we got to school, the person at school with whom we were going to talk was on her way out to go home. So, thankfully, my prinicpal was there! She and her family are American and they have lived in Hungary for 20 years and she speaks Hungarian very well. So we talked with her about it and she said we should go to the police station in E'rd, one town over.
Justin went to this station via a bus. :) He got the police report after 2 hours because of the need for a translator. We will need to get new license plates now. I don't know how much that costs. Needless to say, Justin is quite frustrated. But I'm glad the police are doing their job.

I posted this on Justin's blog... but I am so sorry you are going through this. Sometimes it is just so hard to "live" here. I am praying you get it soon!
